The goal of this bike ride is to raise $2 per each mile, for a total of $6000, which would allow Alegria to provide life-changing surgeries to 24 children affected by cleft lip and palate deformities.
Alegria is a non-profit, 503(c) foundation that provides comprehensive, long-term medical treatment for children affected by cleft lip and palate deformities in Colombia. During last’s year’s, 4-day mission, Alegria foundation performed 65 life-changing surgeries, in 55 children affected by these deformities. In addition, 85 children received speech therapy evaluations and education, and 17 received dental care.

In the second week of June 2017, I will be pedaling the entire 340 miles length of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest to raise funds and awareness for the fantastic work Alegria Foundation does treating children with Cleft Lip and Palate.
Alegria means joy in Spanish, a perfect word describing what the foundation brings to the underprivileged children suffering from Cleft Lip and Palate condition. Through their free comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and long term treatment they literary transform the lives of these children for better.
I was fortunate to learn about Alegria Foundation last year through a dear friend of mine who happens to be a dentist as well. Later I found even more about their work through another dear friend who actually volunteered with them. One could only be so fortunate to experience what he conveyed to me: “There are moments in life when you know you are at the right place doing the right thing. Being around this little girl and helping her to get ready for her surgery tomorrow was one of those moments”.
Their selfless work has touched me immensely and through this fundraising effort I hope that I can do my tiny share to raise awareness and funds for the invaluable work Alegria does.
